– In real life, I just got back from Kenya yesterday. So I was supposed to get back two days ago, I missed my flight, a lot of mess up in New York. Actually finally got home. Now I have like 24 hours and I’m leaving again for Bali. Not complaining at all. I love traveling. I decided in this short time that I’m unpacking and repacking, it’d be a good time to test a lot of travel hacks, because I’m trying to save a lot of time and keep things organized. Anyway, let’s get started with the video. ♪ Hungry they went for us to take us down ♪
– Anyway, my first trick is like for booking your tickets. Just in general, a good tip is if you book a window and an aisle seat, you’re more likely to get an empty seat in between you. This is normally if you’re traveling with two people or more people than that. And this works really well on long flights, and it’s really nice, because then you have an extra seat in between you and you guys can lay down, and have more room, or something, like a chair to sit stuff on. Anyway, so it’s a really nice tip if it does work out.
And now, to move on to more of the packing hacks. I don’t know if some of these work, I’m kinda testing these. A few of ’em I have done, a few of these I have not done. The first hack is using a glasses case to keep your cords and headphones from getting tangled. I never really have a problem with mine getting majorly tangled, I do in my backpack for school, but never really when I’m traveling. So I don’t know if this is really like an actual problem that people have, but we’re gonna try it anyway. So I have some cords, and I have a glasses case. This is like a weird glasses case though, it’s not like a normal hard one, which I don’t know if that’s what they’re meaning in this trick, but we’re gonna try anyway. Yeah, this is not gonna work out. I think this is what they meant by glasses case like a hard, if you know what I mean, like this and not like this. So my mistake.
To me, this seems pointless, kind of like a waste of space almost, and if you are wearing glasses, why would you put, I don’t know. It just seems a little weird to me. It could work for people. Personally, that’s just not it, so, next hack. Let’s see.
So, it says to use cotton pads, and put it in your makeup so that it doesn’t crack. I’ve only had makeup crack like once. Then again, I don’t really wear makeup, so I don’t really bring it when I’m traveling. So this could just not be a problem for me because I don’t really bring it, but, I guess we could try it and see. I wonder if it closes, actually, now that I think about it. Pretty much all it’s saying to do is to take a cotton pad like this and to put it in your makeup, but that’s just not gonna close it, will it? Wait, maybe it will. (clicks) Wait. It doesn’t even close. Do you see this?
It’s like, open still. But it’s protected. It’s going to spill open. I feel like that’s gonna make it crack even more. Fail? Maybe I got the wrong size cotton pads? I don’t know, do people actually do that? It’s just not practical at all. That hack did not work. Wow, we are off to like a bad start. None of these are even useful.
All right, next, use a Tic Tac container to hold bobby pins. Oh, okay, this is actually a good one. I am actually going to use this Tic Tac container. What am I gonna do with these? Wait, this is gum. Tic Tacs have gum? (crunches) Okay, so, I have an empty Tic Tac container now. I just literally poured them all over my desk. I also grabbed some bobby pins. And it’s literally just saying to stick them in the Tic Tac container like this, I guess? I’m actually gonna use this because I was just thinking literally five seconds before I started filming this video I needed to pack bobby pins but I never know where to stick them, so, Tic Tac container. This one’s a good hack! I like this one. Good job, internet. You got one right.
Next hack, binder clips to protect your razor. So I just kind of stuck it on. I don’t think this one’s gonna work out though, because I don’t know if I have the wrong size razor, but does that seem protected? Maybe a little bit. I see the idea behind it. I just feel like it’s gonna pop off. I don’t know. I’ll keep it in and see what happens.
Okay, so, this hack says to use a contact case to carry your liquid makeup. I assume they mean if you’re traveling carry-on and this would flag it. I don’t think it would though, actually. Is this going to be enough makeup for somebody? I mean I guess it works, cause you just squeeze it in there. Okay, so it’s full of makeup now. This looks horrible. Okay, so you put it in that. Which is what they’re saying, and then you have enough makeup, but is that enough makeup for people? I guess if they’re going carry-on they’re really not staying very long. Maybe you’d have to bring a couple contact cases. This could work for somebody though. I guess it works. It’s in there. I give this one like a half yes, half works, half fail. Oh, I’ve used this one before.
Use straws to keep necklaces from getting tangled. This is a good hack, actually. Because my necklaces do get tangled when traveling. Here are some straws that I have. I’m gonna grab some necklaces. You take a necklace and you take a straw. You open the necklace like this, and you pretty much just feed it through the straw if that makes any sense at all. Oh, what if my necklace doesn’t fit through the straw? I think I found the hack fail. This is not gonna work out. I only got it halfway through before it got stuck. So I guess your necklace would have to be really skinny. Probably no beads on it like this one has, otherwise it’s not gonna go through the straw. But I have used this hack before. I don’t know how it worked then and now it’s not working. I think it’s just this necklace. Fail. Again. These travel hacks are just not working out.
This one’s good. I actually use this, and I know a lot of people who do. Use dryer sheets to keep your clothes smelling nice. You basically just like stick them in your suitcase, or if you’re bringing a laundry bag, bring them in the laundry bag, that way once you do have laundry, you stick them in that bag, and it does not smell as bad. I just used this on my Kenya trip, because we had lots of laundry. We were out working every day, so everything was smelling horrible. That’s a good one.
All right, then the next hack uses an Altoid container, and I just cannot keep all these mints everywhere that I just emptied out for this video, so Paisley is taking them. That is a lot of mints. What are you going to do with all of those? – Eat them. – All right, well there you have it.
Next hack says to use a mint container to carry your medicine. I just don’t understand this, because if you have medicine it should be coming in like a bottle or a box. If it’s over the counter, it should be in something like this. So, why would you put it in a mint container when it’s already packaged? Especially if they’re talking about, like, ibuprofen or something. I feel like it’d just be better to bring a bottle. And they have little travel sized ones at the store. Could you imagine somebody thinks you have mints, and they take one and it’s medicine? Anyway, this just seems like not a great hack to me, so I’m going to stick with the bottles and the boxes and give the mints to Paisley.
So, there you go. Next hack says, “Store items in your shoes to save space.” I think they’re meaning like tennis shoes. I normally do stick my socks in my tennis shoes that way I’m saving space with that. So that’s a good hack if you have the right shoes and stuff to stuff in them. For packing, the last one is to use plastic wrap and you put it over your bottles so that it doesn’t spill out all over your suitcase. All right. Okay. Basically what this one is saying to do is to take a piece of plastic wrap and your bottle, and you unscrew the lid. Can’t do this one handed. All right, take five. You unscrew the lid, and then you stick the plastic wrap, and you stick it on top of the bottle, and then you screw the lid back on. Like this. So basically what this does is it keeps your stuff from spilling, like even if it explodes somehow, it shouldn’t really spill all over your suitcase and it kind of prevents spills and stuff. So this is a good one. I never really have things spill, and I keep all of my liquids in a bag so that if it does spill, it doesn’t spill all over my clothes. But if you don’t have that, then this is a good option or alternative.
All right, we’re at the airport now. Hack that we figured out from experience is to do what? You don’t– – Take a picture of your parking spot. – Yeah, there you go. You got it. Take a picture of your parking spot, the number. That way you don’t lose it, the little card. You’ll always know where you parked. Because we’ve definitely run into issues with that. So that’s a hack, and a good one. Not a fail. Success.
All right, so our next travel hack is for security. We always bring empty water bottles. and we empty them out with water, and then you can fill them back in once you get through security. That way you always have water, you don’t have to pay for it. But we did figure out that you can freeze liquids, and then they can go through security. Which is a good hack if you have a certain drink that you wanted, because it’ll unfreeze when you’re on the plane, and then you have it, so that’s our hack for security. So we just checked with TSA agents, the like guard guy that was there. We asked him if you could take frozen liquids through the TSA screening, and he said yes, you can, so now we know.
– I would have guessed that was a rumor.
– It’s true. Yeah, now we know. That’s actually a good hack. I feel like I’d actually
– It is a good hack.
– use that. But yeah, you could freeze other stuff and bring it through, and then you have it on the plane. Now we know.
Now that we’re on the plane, we have two more hacks, and this one I actually didn’t know about until recently. So if you’re in the middle, and normally you can’t move this bar. There’s a switch right there that you press. And then you can lift it up. So it’s right there. Anyway, so it’s a hidden switch, so that you can let that armrest up, and then you have more space for whatever you want. That’s that trick, and it works.
All right, and then our second hack is if you want to watch a show on the plane. If it’s one of the planes that doesn’t have a screen, like a TV screen, like this, and you want to use your phone, you stick your phone into the bag, like so. And so you zip it up and then you take where the little switch thing is. You fold it down, put it back, and then close it. And then you have a little holder for your phone. There you go.
Those are our plane hacks. And Bailey is here, too. So we finally made it to Bali, but unfortunately my luggage did not. So here’s a tip: don’t lose your luggage, which really you can’t do anything about. Anyway, we finally made it to Bali, and we thought of another good tip which we actually brought, but we didn’t really think of putting in this video until now, and that is to bring an extension cord.
So a lot of times when you’re traveling out of the country, obviously they don’t have the same plugs as you, so you can use your adapter and converter, and then just plug in to an extension cord, and then you have like five plugs instead of just one. So it’s a really good hack that we figured out, and it’s worked really well this trip. So I highly recommend that.
And then, in Australia, we had a layover in Australia, I accidentally left my passport on the plane, and didn’t really figure it out until we were at our next gate, anyway long story short, don’t lose your passport, but you can bring a photocopy of your passport, which I would recommend doing. Stick it in your bag or something, and that way if you do lose your passport, you can get home. I believe you can get home with a photocopy. That’s what they say.
So that’s my next trick. Just don’t lose your passport in general, but I would keep a photocopy just in case so you can actually get home. So another hack that we have figured out does work, and I actually, not even gonna lie, this isn’t even really a travel hack because I use it at home too, but if you shower and you need something dewrinkled, well with typical hotel showers this works, you can just kind of hang it like this in the bathroom and then the hot water will steam it, and you can actually bring a bottle of dewrinkler and spray it on whatever you’re wanting to steam, and it will actually completely get rid of all the wrinkles. So this is a very good hack especially if you need to look nice and you’re in a time crunch, just shower and then you have your stuff not wrinkled anymore.
So it’s a good tip, but I know it works cause I’ve done it multiple times. So hopefully you guys enjoy this video. I hope all my tips and tricks helped. This was like half testing, half telling. Well now hopefully you have some more tricks that help you when you’re traveling, because traveling is very stressful, and anything that can help helps. But hopefully you guys enjoyed this video. Thank you guys so much for watching, and I’ll see you guys next week. Bye.
